Slowed Down...

Posted by keepwalking - February 16th, 2012

Lately I have been going through one of those moments when you just can find enough tme to keep on working on your own personal projects, wich in my case are my paintings, and lastly but not less important, my animations. This doesn't include commisioned works, scince they are quite a big priority. Having a full 9 hour day time job is gradually pushing me to pospone things, wich are eventually finished, but I take the triple amount of time to complete a single one of them.
My concern is that this is serious shit, I've heard of many artists that dropped painting or animating because of their new job, and instantly makes me think about myself. I always knew, and still know that this will never happend to me, ever, but I'm still trying to find a way to rebalance my life in order to put Art on the "High Speed Road" again.
Luminiscense 2 has been postponed indefinitely, and I have 2 paintings that are begging to be finished.
>fuck-this-shit^
Mind to share your thoughts?

What kind of job do you have? Maybe there's a way to work out extra time for art. Work hard, play hard.

I work as a graphic/web designer/programer. I know there is a way, I'm still trying to find it out...

I find that sacrifice is the only way man. Take away from sleep. Stay up and paint. Simple? ya. Healthy? Not so much.

Trust me I stay awake way too much at night. Still is the only moment I get inspired

The term "starving artist" comes to mind :P

That's heavy man, It'll be a gray time when I won't be able to release creative steam due to time press.

I don't have a job yet and my life is already a living hell :P But I do understand. I think that you should watch this, it's an article by Chris Niosi, I really do think that this really touches those who are in similar situations like you. www.youtub e.com/watch?v=a--3bTECQw8&feature=plcp&context =C3900cd5UDOEgsToPDskJMxf5BJMt06CTCOcExiMSo

thanks a lot for shareing that video. It really helped:)

That's a thought that haunted me ever since I started thinking about my future careers, and when the homework load increased. But to answer your questions I need you to tell me what your job is, and I'll think about it and give you my answer.

I work as a graphic/web designer/programer.

All I can say is that you're not alone. Many of us have to arrange with that sooner or later. I'm certain your time will come again, just keep the flame burning, no matter how weak it may appear.

Dude, youre an amazing talent and an inspiration. Take your breaks, slow down, whatever needs to be done, as long as you never stop!

But it takes only about 1 hour to write a large decent and difficult program (if you have a general idea of what and how to write)

Just take things at the speed YOU want and everything will work out

Sometime you gotta go other way to focus on your passions.

Do what you must to at the moment, not what you want to do later. What you want to do will come by itself later.

Sorry about the late response, but yeah, I would recommend that you continue your job as a graphic/web designer/programmer (If you're not self-employed), and maybe share your personal projects with your co-workers, and maybe you could collaborate (Or not, if you prefer working alone).

Just a suggestion.

I really like your skin. Congrats on getting the frontpage skin.

I love your front page background. Marry me?

Yeah it fits NG quite well, good job

I love your NG background

those building things look like the Reapers from Mass Effect

Can you tell me what you exactly do as a graphic designer? I want to get into the field myself.
